Grigorijus Potašenko

Representative of ethnic minorities (communities), historian

Historian Grigorijus Potašenko was awarded a Master's degree in History from Vilnius University in 1993. In 1999, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the same university. Since then, he has been a lecturer at the Faculty of History at Vilnius University, and in 2006, he was promoted to associate professor. His research focuses on Lithuanian ethnic politics, the history of ethnic minorities, Lithuanian cultural history from the 18th century to the early 21st century, and the dynamics of multiculturalism and cultural diversity. He is also deeply engaged in researching the history, culture, and heritage of the Baltic States, as well as Eastern and Central Europe.

G. Potašenko has authored four scientific monographs and studies, and is the lead co-author of four additional scholarly publications. He has also penned four popular science books exploring Lithuania's national and religious minorities, along with dozens of both scholarly and popular articles.

For the past 25 years, G. Potašenko has actively engaged in a broad spectrum of expert and practical work. Since 2016, he has served as a member of the Academic Council at the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. In 2020, he contributed as a member of the drafting team within the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for the Law on National Minorities. He has also provided expert advice on shaping Lithuania's future vision, Lithuania 2050, actively participating in and speaking at discussions presenting this vision.

G. Potašenko brings extensive experience managing national and international projects that promote culture, art, education, and science across Lithuanian and international museums, institutions, Lithuanian National Radio and Television, online media, digital initiatives, and more.
