Literary critic, literary scholar, doctor of humanities

Jūratė Čerškutė, a literary critic, scholar, and Doctor of Humanities, earned her Bachelor's degree in Lithuanian Philology from Vilnius University in 2007. In 2009, she completed her Master's degree in Philology, specialising in Lithuanian Literature, at Vilnius University. Between 2009 and 2013, she pursued her doctoral studies through a joint programme between the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore and Vilnius University. In 2014, she successfully defended her PhD thesis, titled Deconstruction in Ričardas Gaveli’s Prose of (Lith. Dekonstrukcija Ričardo Gavelio prozoje), in the field of philology and humanities. 

Since 2014, she has been working in the Department of Contemporary Literature at the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. Since 2015, she has been teaching at the University of Warsaw. 

J. Čerškutė’s research focuses on contemporary literature and culture, modern Lithuanian prose, Soviet-era studies, and literary criticism.

Since 2009, she’s been involved in selecting the Twelve Most Creative Books and has long served as an expert for the 15min Book of the Year and Translated Book of the Year awards. She has also contributed to selecting laureates for the Jurga Ivanauskaitė, Liudas Dovydėnas, Vilnius Club, and various other literary awards. 

Since 2008, she has been deeply engaged in literary criticism and promoting Lithuanian literature and regularly moderates literary events. Her reviews and articles are published in leading cultural and literary journals. 

In 2023, she received the Critic of the Year Award for her insightful engagement with literary trends and criticism that resonates with a broad audience.
